About Jacob Camara
"Jacob Camara has graced Eugene with an exceptional combination of raw acoustic, vocal, and songwriting talents with less tangible gifts of soul and depth. He is a uniquely seasoned performer at a relatively young age who has an unlimited future while already being one of acoustic music's great artists." -Mike Meyer, Concert Promoter/DJ
The spirit of the song
International songwriter
Jacob Camara is an international singer/songwriter based in Nashville, Tennessee. Drawing from the deep well of American roots music, he crafts songs with a simple, timeless quality. The rhythms, melodies, and spirit of classic country, blues, and folk are alive and well in his songs, with influences including Robert Johnson, Bob Dylan, Mississippi John Hurt, Gillian Welch, Kate Wolf, Bonnie Raitt, Willie Nelson, and Charlie Parr.
Born at the base of the Colorado Rockies and raised in the classical tradition from the age of nine, Jacob spent his early years learning and performing the works of Mozart, Beethoven, and Brahms in symphonies and youth orchestras. But at fifteen, a baseball injury snapped his right arm and although the injury healed, he never picked up the viola again. A year later, while digging through the basement, he uncovered his mother’s old Epiphone acoustic guitar. That discovery lit a creative fire and with nothing but a Beatles songbook and that old guitar, he taught himself his first chords and began writing songs — the beginning of a lifelong passion.
Since 2019, he has performed more than 500 shows (and counting!) across North America and Europe, sharing the stage with artists such as Ramblin Jack Elliot and Willie Watson. His tour resume includes the USA, Canada, Denmark, Sweden, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, and Austria.
He has produced and released four albums of original material. In addition to his solo work, he is a founding member and banjo player in the bluegrass band The Muddy Souls, who have “created a unique and raw sound…completely of their own” (Freshgrass Music Festival). Whether solo or with a band, the focus is on the groove, three chords, and the truth — no frills, no fuss.
